Object: cognitive learning and self-directed learning activities of university students. Purpose - to identify, lay theoretical grounds and experimentally verify the effectiveness of integrating student's cognitive learning and self-directed activities through competence-based approach. Practical significance: the research has designed and implemented an elective for students, a scientific and methodological seminar for teachers and integrated forms of organizing cognitive learning and self-directed activities. Methods: empirical, experimental methods, methods of mathematical statistics.
