The object is Russian emigration in Europe during 1917-1939. The aim is to determine the peculiarities of Russian diaspora's formation in Europe and the specialties of sociocultural adaptation of immigrants to their new environment during 1917-1939.The methods of research include methods, used in all sciences, such as methods of analysis and synthesis and methods of historical research, such as historical genetic, historical comparative, synchronic methods, classification, periodization, methods of prosopography.The paper discloses a problem of sociocultural adaptation of Russian emigration of the first post-revolutionary wave in Europe through the prism of personal adaptants' strategies.Typical emigrant, his interests, concerns, stereotypes and finally adaptation mechanisms are in the centre of research for the first time in national historiography.By involving a wide range of published and archival sources, extensive historiographical material,the mechanisms of sociocultural adaptation of emigrants to the societies of the recipient countries and their perceptions of the system of "other" and "own" world are comprehensively investigated.Revealing the formation of the Russian diaspora in Europe during the determined period, the author comes to the conclusion about high migration mobility of refugees after crossing the border and the frequent change of residence within the European continent.The influence of of national traditions in exile on the preservation of Russian identity among refugees is shown.The main strategies for the integration of immigrants into the labor market of the recipient countries are studied.The models of integration of Russian national education into the systems of recepient countries are examined. The impact of images of the recipient countries’ population on the social and cultural adaptation of Russian refugees is analyzed.The visions of the national chiefs and of the mission of emigration in Europe as the factors, which unite Russian community, are described.Scope - the world history, the source science, the learning process.
