The thesis focuses on the research of linguistic and cultural features of present-day English laudatory discourse. The paper advances linguistic study of laudatory discourse and characterizes its components. Genres of laudatory discourse are singled out. Linguistic and discourse features of laudation with reference to social and cultural factors are worked out. The thesis proves the hypothesis as for a special character of expressing laudation in American and British cultures. Since this paper is ground on the application of textual, linguistic and pragmatic stance that discourse is understood as a coherent text with the set of linguistic and non-linguistic factors. The methodological tools used in this paper turn out to be the ones of observation, comparison and analysis, descriptive method, discourse analysis, pragmatic interpretation. They provide detailed investigation and correct detection of linguistics and socio-cultural peculiarities of different genres of English laudatory discourse. Chapter I "Theoretic and methodological fundamentals for research of English laudatory discourse" provides methods and theoretical stance for the research, gives the definition of laudatory discourse and draws upon its genres. It singles out strategies and tactics typical of laudatory discourse. It also identifies expressive means of laudation. The distinction between laudation and speech act of evaluation is worked out.
