Essay

The thesis focuses on the study of derivational novelties in pre-election discourse of Great Britain and the USA. The work summarizes theoretical and methodological foundations of researching new words and phrases within a particular discourse. The notions of pre-election discourse and derivational novelty have been specified. Productive word-forming structural patterns of derivational novelties, namely neoterms, neologisms and occasionalisms, have been defined. Semantic features of derivational novelties have been outlined. Ideological and pragmatic factors influencing the character of semantic change in the process of the new lexical units word-forming have been singled out. The glossary of derivational novelties has been compiled.
