This thesis focuses on the study of semiotic, cognitive and pragmatic aspects of the cultural type "Flapper" as it is represented in American discourse. The research determines cognitive nature and pragmatic potential of the type "Flapper" in terms of the assessment category. An integrated methodology of the cultural type analysis has been elaborated; semantic and pragmatic features pertaining to the corpus of English-language designations of the type and its discourse objectification have been ascertained. The cognitive status of the cultural type "Flapper" within the semiotic field of contemporary American culture has been elucidated.
