The thesis outlines a new approach to the analysis of justification in the German political discourse from the point of discourse studies and theory of speech genres. The communicative and pragmatic background of justification and the impact of the political context on its linguistic implementation are analysed. The pragmatic strategies and tactics of justification in German political discourse have been identified. Characteristic syntactic, lexical and morpho-lexical and stylistic means of justification and their specific function have been defined.
