Essay

High accumulative moss ability was found out first: in leaf-stem shoots heavy metals were accumulated in leaf cells of the nerve, top and base mainly intracellular and only a part of ions were immobilized in the cellular walls. The dependence of tolerance index D. aduncus on heavy metals concentration and growth conditions (sandy and water cultures) was revealed. Moss ability to accumulate increased concentrations of toxic metals depending on pollution level of the over moistened ecotopes was established for the first time. The results of investigations indicate high plasticity of moss under heavy metal stress, which allows recommending studied species for bryoindication and phytoremediation of polluted territories.
