Abramova Y. The Originality of the Sonnet Genre in A. Ch. Swinburne's Creative Work.

The object of the thesis is Swinburne's sonnets. The objective of the thesis is the research of the semantic and stylistic features of Swinburne's sonnets in the comparison with the traditional genre characteristics. The presented research provides the complex analysis of Swinburne's sonnet genre in the context of Victorian literature. The main form and content features of the sonnet were considered and classified, the brief excursus into the history of English sonnet was accomplished and the features of Renaissance, Romantic and Victorian sonnet types were found out. The poetics and stylistics of sonnet genre in Swinburne's creative work were investigated and the main sonnet variants (a sonnet-metaphor and a sonnet-lament) were determined, the originality of epic, lyric and dramatic element combination in Swinburne's political sonnets was found out. The field of application is teaching.
