Essay

The dissertation is devoted to studying plasma creation, confinement and heating in the Uragan-3M torsatron. At the radiofrequency heating power high enough, the transition to the H-like confinement mode occurs. The H-like mode transition trigger is a short-time enhanced ion loss with energies greater than or about 500 eV. Edge turbulent transport is reduced after the transition. This reduction correlates with a slowing-down of the plasma density decay and a radial electric field shear enhancement at the plasma boundary. A weaker shear already formed before the transition and enhanced after it.
