This thesis is a comprehensive study of evaluation category in terms of its cognitive, communicative-and-pragmatic, functional, social-and-cultural features that influence the prosodic structure of positive and negative statements. The representation of positive and negative evaluative statements in the English social and informative radio discourse has been investigated on the lexical, morphological, syntactic and phonetic levels. Correlation between communicative-and-pragmatic intention of the speaker and prosodic variation of positive and negative evaluative statement in the English social radio discourse has been determined. The main social-and-cultural factors revealed through the prosodic structure of positive and negative evaluative statements have been outlined. Experimental phonetic study confirmed the influence of speaker's personal status and gender on the intonation variation of positive and negative evaluative statements.
