Essay

Object: Object: age-related macular degeneration. Purpose: to optimize the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, based on experimental study of the proteolysis‘s system disorders role in rabbit’s retinal degenerative process with use of chronic light high intensity irradiation with followed reasonable correction of protease-inhibitory system disorders in complex treatment. Methods: visometry, photostress test with striped filter, ophthalmoscopy, photopic light sensitivity, phenomenon Shearer, FAG, OCT, spectrophotometric determination of total proteolytic and antiprotease activity of rabbit’s retina and patient’s blood plasma; equipment: ophthalmoscope, adaptometer, fundus camera, scanner. For the first time protective action of proteolytic enzymes to the retina was revealed. Scientific knowledge about activation of the retinal proteolytic activity in rabbits under the influence of systemic enzyme therapy were expanded. Expanded scientific understanding of the processes of proteolysis stimulation in patients with AMD under the influence of systemic enzyme therapy in complex treatment. A method of protease-inhibitory system disorders correction was offered in patients with age-related macular degeneration, allowed to increase visual acuity by 40%, photopic light sensitivity of 30%, the index of Schearer phenomen at 121%. The results were introduced in the Filatov Institute, Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern region, Odesa. Sphere of application - medicine, ophthalmology.
