The thesis deals with the communicative domination strategies of the American electoral televised debate as a genre of political discourse, focusing on the gender specified features of the use of the above strategies. The purpose of the thesis is to identify the gender specified features of the use of the communicative domination strategies and tactics by the participants of the American electoral debate. The methodology of the thesis includes methods of cognitive linguistics and discursive study such as conversational analysis, semantic and syntactic analysis, syntactic and stylistic analysis, component analysis, interpretational and textual analysis, cognitive-discoursive interpretation techniques, cognitive and statistical analysis. The scientific novelty of the thesis is in the pioneer investigation into the gender specifics of the communicative interaction between the participants of the American electoral debate using the definitions and methodology of cognitive and discoursive linguistics. Inter alia, the thesis revealed the gender specified features of the communicative domination strategies and tactics used by the participants of the American electoral debate. The theoretical significance of the thesis is determined by its contribution to the discourse study and gender linguistics. The practical value of the thesis consists in the possibility to use the obtained results in teaching stylistics, lexicology and grammar of the modern English language, general linguistics, as well as in teaching special disciplines such as Cognitive Discourse Study, Communication Theory, Gender Linguistics, Linguistic Manipulation Theory, Argumentation theory. The results of the thesis can be also of use to political leaders, political strategists, speechwriters, PR-managers and journalists.
