Samochornova O. Appositive Construction as Explicative Model in American Newspaper Discourse

The paper presents a research into linguistic, as well as cognitive and communicative properties of appositive constructions functioning in American newspaper discourse. The analysis is aimed at revealing language, speech, cognitive and communicative features of appositive constructions, typical for American newspaper discourse. Among major scientific methods used there are general scientific methods, as well as traditional and modern methods of linguistic analysis. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by the analysis of the appositive construction as an explicative model with the description of its category features, as well as the validation of its cognitive and communicative character. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by its contribution to communicative linguistics, pragmalinguistics and discourse analysis. The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility to apply them in theoretical courses of Theoretical Grammar ("Syntax", "Semantics", "Pragmatics"), Stylistics ("Functional Styles of the Language"), special courses in Communication Studies, Discourse Analysis, Communicative Linguistics and Media Studies; as well as in the process of writing research papers of different levels.
