The essence and significance of small-scale farming in the development of rural areas are defined. .The socio-economic condition of the modern village as formation and development of an environment of entrepreneurial potential is analyzed. The activity of small business entities in the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors is evaluated. The conceptual approaches to the further transformation of rural small business entities are offered. The methods of evaluation of the transformation results, which allow setting the effective implementation of reforms in the agricultural sector are developed.
