Essay

The thesis is devoted to a definition of the specific composer’s interpretation of the stories by A. P. Chekhov in modern Ukrainian opera. The biography of A. P. Chekhov was researched in terms of relations between writer and playwright with music and functions of musical beginning of his creative work were generalized. For the first time an analysis of all operas of Ukrainian composers based on stories by A. P. Chekhov, written from 1963 to 2002, is presented. A developed in the study periodization allowed to distribute the studied operas for three periods and trace their development in connection with world-wide, social and political trends.
