The paper studies concept "INSANITY" as a component of the English naiive view of the world in two variants of its verbalization: in language and speech. The selection is based on 10 general English language dictionaries. The concept verbal field was formed, structured and analyzed. All units of the field share the integrative seme mental illness. The textual selection from 6 English literary texts, allows to study the verbalization of concept "INSANITY" in speech through the portrayal of appearance traits, inner world of the mentally ill characters and their relations with society.
