The object of the thesis is the prose by V. Shevchuk, C. Wilson, W. Golding, I. Murdoch. The purpose is to study the existentialist paradigm of V. Shevchuk's works and English writers' novels of the 50's and 60's. Research methods are genetic, biographical, comparative-historical, typological, existential interpretation of the text, intertextual analysis, hermeneutic approach. The dissertation is devoted to analyzing V. Shevchuk's works and their correlation with the English intellectual and philosophical prose of the 1950's-1960's authored by Colin Wilson, William Golding, Iris Murdoch in terms of comparative studies. The constituents of genre and compositional paradigm of existentialist prose have been defined on the ground of investigating into basic conceptions used by J.-P. Sartre and A. Camus in their fundamental writings. From this perspective the aesthetic sources and stages of establishment of Ukrainian and English existentialism have been identified. The typological juxtaposition gives the possibility to denote the common and different features of reflecting the existentialist postulates in V. Shevchuk's and his English contemporaries' literature. The focus is placed on the problem of protagonist and reality. This issue is considered essential in terms of philosophy of existence. The genre specifications of this kind of prose that frame the author's view of freedom of choice have been defined. The dissertation research proves the consanguinity of the two literatures, and showed the divergences originating from the individual style and social conditions of each of the authors. The scope - learning process.
