Essay

The thesis deals with the elaboration of a new approach to the study of praise from the stand point of the speech act theory, genology and text linguistics. It formulates the typological peculiarities of praising, outlines its pragmatic structure as well as gives an overview of the basic patterns in which “praise” is realised in the German and Ukrainian languages. The pragmatic strategy and tactics of praising typical of the studied languages are defined and the principal morpho-lexical, lexico-stylistic and syntactic means of expressing praise are analysed.
