Suddia A. Functioning of contextual adjective synonyms in German literal discourse: cognitive and pragmastylistic aspects

The research considers the definition criteria of contextual adjective synonyms and a range of related problems; it also offers a methodology of the analysis of contextual adjective synonyms based on the cognitive semantics statements and relevance theory. The results are represented via the frame which reflects attributes, their meanings, knowledge sources about meaning and the attached procedure. This enables to trace the interrelations among semantics, reference, cotext and context. The frame presentation is also used to prove the contextual synonymy of attributive units. The typology of contextual synonymy is worked out as a semantic and syntactic type of relations that studied in connection with the attribution category. Contextual adjective synonyms assist in focusing attention of an addressee; the function of cohesion and coherence creation is also essential. The study considers symmetry and asymmetry of form, meanings and functions as well as interrelations with other elements of the superphrase unity when creating repetitions and participation in the types of foregrounding that influence on the pragmastylistic markedness of contextual adjective synonymy.
