Essay

Thyroid and redox system parameters, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, the functional state of the endothelium, depending on body mass index and polymorphisms of deiodinase type 1 (DIO1) and glutathione peroxidase type 1 (GPX1) genes have been studied in 121 patients with essential hypertension and abdominal obesity. An association of thyroid homeostasis disorders with C/T polymorphism of DIO1 and Pro197Leu polymorphism of GPX1 genes has been established. Efficiency of sodium selenite application in correction of thyroid homeostasis disorders and optimization of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, redox system and endothelial function in patients with hypertension and abdominal obesity have been proved.
