The thesis deals with the comprehensive analyses of the syntactic means of expressiveness in blogs and microblogs, which are treated as net genres of contemporary English media discourse. It was found out that expressivity of English syntactic means is represented with the great variety of patterns of their unity with other syntactic as well as lexical and paragraphemic means. Communicative and pragmatic functions of syntactic means of expressiveness in blogs and microblogs have been singled out. The choice of the topic was influenced by the contemporary discourse studies to the functional specificity of English expressive syntax in blogosphere. In the paper the term "expressivity" is defined as a pragmatic category represented through syntactic expressive language units related to lexical and paragraphemic means, which express the speaker's subjective point of view, attitude towards the addressee and produce emotional and perlocutionary effects upon the readers. The first chapter focuses upon the variety of theoretical approaches to the main notions of media linguistics: media text, media language and media discourse. The media convergence and digitalization opened new perspectives in the investigation of English contemporary media discourse. The functioning of contemporary media discourse in the Internet resulted into the emergence of new media forms of making news online - blogging and microblogging. In particular, Twitter, a free microblogging service, is used by modern mass-media to broadcast news. It helps people to keep pace with the news within 24 hours.
