The economic essence of the general theoretical issues about the financial stability of insurance companies is reviewed and analyzed in the thesis. The main features of insurance companies and the factors that affect their financial stability are investigated. An assessment of the financial stability of the insurance companies has been provided. In addition an analysis of the insurance portfolio of domestic insurers is given. It was examined how insurance reserves have an affect on financial stability of insurers. The assessment of their adequacy to ensure financial stability was presented. The mechanism of providing the financial stability of the insurance company by optimizing its insurance portfolio was illustrated. There is provided the methodical approach and framework in determining the optimal structure of the insurance portfolio. The methodical approach to evaluating and forecasting the financial stability of insurance companies based on the discriminant model has been constructed.
