Object - literary prose by I. Chendey. Aim - analysis of the receptive peculiarities and typology of characters in I. Chendey's prose basing on the Ukrainian-Russian literary and cultural interaction. Methods: typological, reception, historical, comparative and typological, archetypical, geocultural, cultural-historical, rhealogical approaches. The research is the first attempt to study Ivan Chendey's creative activity in the comparative aspect against Ukrainian and Russian cultural interaction. The research analyses the peculiarities of character studies as a representation of anthropological literary studies, enabling the writer to cover the way from geo-cultural prototypology to the image of patrimonial human on the archetype background. The unique combination of ethnocentrism and common cultural approaches encourages the artistic achievements of Ivan Chendey's character making. This fact resulted from the cultural self-identification of the writer as well as his creative personality's growth as a multicultural and multidirectional one. Ivan Chendey's creative activity is closely and receptively related to F. Dostoyevskiy's works as well as typologically to the artistic achievements of his contemporary writers such as V. Belov, V. Rasputin, V. Shukshin, which appeared in their reckoning about the realistic method of the writer as an individual one in shaping the folk character, rheologically related to the content of character studies.
