We study the formation and development of common genre of chamber music - Piano Quintet , main ways of its evolution in the historical musical process. The specificity of the genre Piano Quintet is highlighted, as well as the universal role played piano in it . The path of the genre Piano Quintet is traced in Biedermeier period , romantic epoche and postromantic and stylistic variants of genre in the twentieth century . The Alignment of the concept romantic quintet as a perfect model of this kind of ensemble in postromantic era is attemted.
