Essay

The thesis is devoted to the study of the semantics of verbs with the meaning of psychological impact in modern German with the focus on the regularities of their structural and semantic development, and semantic classification. The research has resulted in determination of the composition of the lexical-semantic group of verbs with the meaning of psychological impact in modern German and identification of the peculiarities of their formation and origin. It has been found that most of these verbs were formed by derivation and owing to the semantic development. The semantics of the verbs under consideration has been modelled using the interpretation formulas, which permitted to distinguish 187 synonymic rows within 13 lexical-semantic subgroups of the verbs with the meaning of psychological impact, and to describe their semantics as a system. The semantic feature of "impact intensity", the valency and the semantic roles typical of the linguistic situation for the verbs under investigation have been defined. The model of semantic analysis of these verbs worked out in the course of the research is universal and can be verified on the corpus of other languages.
