Essay

The thesis highlights the structure of Eliza Haywood's literary heritage from the gender perspective and gives a broad outline of its narrative strategies, codes and typology of narrators. It traces back the major historic stages in the development of theoretical grounds of narratology as well as compares its categories in classical and feminist versions of the narrative studies. Specific features of professional woman authorship in Augustan age have been shown in the context of literary traditions of amatory fiction from the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. The dissertation analyzes peculiarities of feminocentric love discourse and evolution of its constituents in terms of gender.
