The dissertation devoted to the research of D. Bahaliy's historiographical activity in the context of the Ukrainian historical science at the end of the XIXth - beginning of the XXth century. The theoretical problems of historiography in D. Bahaliys' works have been analysed which are the following: its subject and task, interpretation of the Ukrainian historiographical process and its periods, both formation and existence of historiographical approaches and schools. There also have been studied the scientist's views on the "pre-scientific" period in Ukrainian historiography.
