The dissertation is devoted to the complex study of theoretical and practical problems of the use of polygraph in criminal investigation. In the paper current legislation, the existing scientific attitudes and foreign experience of the use of polygraph in criminal proceedings are analyzed. The author investigates the concept, the essence, and historical development of psychophysiological diagnostics by means of polygraph, its admissibility and place in the system of forensic methods. The existing testing techniques and types of questions used in such techniques are analyzed. The author establishes the features of phases of polygraph research and polygraphist’s tasks on each phase; a special concern is paid to the countermeasures to polygraph testing and its neutralization. In the dissertation possible forms of the use of polygraph in criminal proceedings are analyzed, the correlation between procedural status of testing results and procedural form of testing is defined. A number of proposals and recommendations aimed at improving legal regulation of the use of polygraph in criminal investigation were made.
