Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the conceptualization of the seven-string guitar with thirds tuning. It reveals the main lines of musical understanding of the seven-string guitar phenomenon and the leading image and semantic guitar characteristics in the European culture. The work proves Russian origin of the seven-string guitar with G-dur tuning and covers historic dynamics of its evolution and tendencies of its today's development. The work defines organologic and timbre-phonic specificities of the six-string and seven-string guitars and their performance peculiarities, as well as performance potential of the seven-string guitar with G-dur and g-moll tunings. The dissertation analyses a number of works for the instrument.
