Essay

The dissertation is focused on the study of the violin-playing style in Concerti grossi of Arcangelo Corelli. The violin is identified as the instrumental dominant in the genre of Corelli's Concerti which appear at the point of intersection between two epochal principles of musical thinking - polyphony and homophony - and the merging of two musical professions - composer and performer. The violin-playing style of Arcangelo Corelli becomes the predominant factor in the creation of instrumental homophony in concerti performance that is demonstrated in the interaction of the two models of concerto grosso, namely da chiesa and da camera.
