Essay

The dissertation is a comprehensive study of the processes of minting coins and manufacturing fakes in Central and Eastern Europe in the period from the XIV to the XVII century. The study presents a historiographical analysis of the processes of minting coins with different technologies, various kinds of sources are involved and described. Defined and described a complete industrial chain of the processes of manufacturing coins, described the tools which were used. The transition from the use of hand production to the top minting machinery was demonstrated. The transition from the use of hand production to the top minting machinery was demonstrated. The main causes of the appear of manufacturing defects at the hand minting, and with use of machinery, introduced into scientific circulation new type of defects which had not been given attention in the literature were showed. The methods of the protection of the coins and checking their on quality in the past were investigated.
