Essay

The paper focuses on structural semantic and linguistic pragmatic properties of structural presuppositional utterances in modern English colloquial discourse. The research was carried out within the methodological framework of discursive pragmatic linguistics applying the anthropocentric approach to language analysis taking into account all dimensions of its functioning in discourse: structural and semantic, cognitive, psychological, social and cultural. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by defining main structural semantic and pragmatic discursive types of presuppositional utterances of the English language and characteristics of structural presupposition actualization, as well as illocutive potential and discursive tactics of structural presuppositional utterances in English colloquial discourse. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by its contribution to the discursive and pragmatical direction in linguistics (theories of implicatures, speech acts and discursive strategies). The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility to apply them in teaching theoretical grammar of the English language (theme "Pragmatics of Sentence"), general linguistics ("Language and Communication"), courses in communication theory, discourse studies, as well in research of different levels.
