Essay

The thesis deals with the phrasing as a logical framework for the process of musical interpretation. Theoretical arguments are based on the notion of formal-logic and artistic-logic sides of the performance in which the delicate mechanism of following the musical score or departing from it, compliance or leveling of the norms of "phrasing" is attributed to the action of the game principle. The author is focused on the performing logic of the Slonimsky's piano compositions: emotional and volitional phrasing constructions predominate in the composer's piano music.
