Essay

The thesis is the first comprehensive research of the British literary circle The Inklings (1930s - 1970s) creative work in Ukrainian literary studies in terms of mythopoeic world models analysis. The oeuvre of the group's members, united by common cultural, philosophical, aesthetic and religious views, is considered as a specific artistic phenomenon of the English national literature. It resulted in arising of a new literary trend of the first half of the 20th century, "Christian Romanticism". As artistic and stylistic meta-notion, "Christian Romanticism" is characterized by Christian symbolism and themes, by revival of interest to and appreciation of concepts and symbols of different philosophical systems, by mythopoeic method in creation of "secondary worlds" and by polygeneric nature of literary works. Based on mythcritical, structural and psychoanalytic methods of text analysis, the thesis shows that writers, especially J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, E.R. Edison combined elements of different mythological systems, alternatively incorporated Christian mythology into their artistic models of the world and represented religious and philosophical principles of various branches of Christianity and unorthodox movements, e.g. anthroposophy. Ritual-ceremonial motives, philosophical and ideological concepts as well as laws and principles of cooperation and mutual influence of the group members were singled out in the research, including such ones as "co-inherence", "Romantic theology", "Romantic multiverse", "subcreation" which served the artists to create their original mythopoeic world models.
