Essay

The thesis is devoted to deepening and developing theoretical positions, improving methodical approaches as well as developing practical recommendations in relation to forming competitive strategy of a bank. The thesis analyzes the existing scientific and methodological approaches to the definition of " bank competitive strategy" and "strategic flexibility of the bank competitive strategy" concepts; develops a typology of the bank competitive strategies by introducing the "diversification of competition methods" classification attribute; improves methodological tools for assessing the intensity of competition in the banking market by calculating the integral index to assess the degree of market concentration of banking services as an inverse value to the competition intensity; proposes a methodical approach to the justification of competitive strategy by formalizing the trends in the bank competitive position in terms of resources and credit segments of banking services; systematizes competitive priorities of a bank, which form the basis for choosing the strategic direction of the competition; develops a methodical approach to the segmentation of competitive environment on the market of banking services on the basis of distributing banks to the strategic groups of competitors according to the competitive positions in the priority segments of bank services market and identifying their competitive force; proposes methodical recommendations as to providing strategic flexibility of competitive strategy of a bank in the conditions of macroeconomic instability intensification.
