The thesis presents a comprehensive study of the peculiarities of gender stereotype verbalization in English fiction from the point of view of linguo-cognitive and linguo-communicative approaches. While the scientific research, the content of "gender" category from linguistic viewpoint is defined; the structure, functions and essential characteristics of sociocultural stereotypes of masculinity/femininity in the English language are determined; the peculiarities of gender stereotype explication in the English fiction discourse are established; the verbal representation of gender stereotypes in the English patriarchal and postfeministic romance is characterized; the pragmatic characteristics of male and female referents in the system of figurative and non-figurative nominations are revealed; special features of emotional-expressive aspect of male and female characters' communicative behavior, expressed by taboo invectives, are found out; the impact of extra lingual factors (feministic ideas and authors' sex) on lingual manifestation of gender stereotypes in the English fiction discourse is revealed.
