The object of investigation is hydrodynamic and heat transfer processes in the porous media of MSW dump and landfill around the gas extraction well. The purpose of the work is determination of effective design and operating parameters of gas extraction well of vertical landfill gas collection system. The investigation methods are a physical experiment, modeling, and statistic and calculation analyze. The main results of the work are: (a) engineering and methodical base for MSW dump and landfill investigation is developed including a new method for determination of the density of the dry organic matter of waste; (b) large quantity of the experimental data on the waste properties and well performance parameters and MSW dump and landfill structure are received; (c) model of hydrodynamic and heat transfer in porous media of MSW dump and landfill which takes into account a secondary settlement of waste is improved; (d) model of the secondary settlement of waste which takes into account a decomposition of individual waste fractions is adjusted; (f) patterns of influence of extraction well design and operating parameters on its production rate and radius of influence are obtained; (g) algorithm of extraction well design and operating parameters selection is developed; (h) recommendation regarding design of effective vertical landfill gas collection system is developed. The results of the work are implemented in: (a) Rivne City Administration during preparation of economic evaluation of construction of landfill gas collection and utilization system at the dump in Rivne city; (b) Tis Eco company during designing of industrial landfill gas collection system at the Primorskiy landfill in Mariupol city; (c) State Environment Investment Agency of Ukraine during the calculation of methane emission for National greenhouse gas inventories of Ukraine for 1990-2010; (d) Siberian State Industrial University during the investigation of dump in Novokuznetsk city.
