Essay

In this dissertation genre typology of contemporary writer's essay is explored. The purposes of research are uncovering of genre typology of an essay, its structural models and semiotic systems, recreation of general picture of essay development and functioning in the context of modern Ukrainian literature and also specificity of genre valence of reflective type of epics. Essay texts of contemporary Ukrainian writers have served as a material of study. Analyzed works belong to literary discourse at the turn of XX-XXI centuries. The author of dissertation analyzes achievements of essay researchers obtained not only in the field of philology, but also in social communication and philosophy. In this thesis a lot of attention is paid to etymology of the term "essay". Owing to analysis of traditions of essay writing, genre constants of philosophical type of epics are outlined. Due to the specificity of deconstructive and post-nuclear mind genre markers of contemporary writer's essays are written out. The structure of free genre is also considered. Particular attention is paid to semiotic system, especially to collective subconscious codes, mental semiotic structures and intermedial semes, borrowed from painting and music. It is noted that the process of genre generation is connected with mentality of indigenous nation of a country. Moreover, if the events and facts of modern times go through writer's overview, the essay can't be separated from subconscious archetype codes and way of thinking of an individual, which spiritual perception and attitude to world is formed by his family environment and social group. When writing the essay, the author wants to implement the whole system of communicative purposes in his message, documentary and factual basis and artistic images. During his work essay writer is led by subconscious cannon images of reality embedded during the life of many ancestral generations of predecessors.
