Essay

The thesis studies the UGCC's activities in 1985-1991 in the context of socio-political changes in the Soviet Union in 1985-1991 years. The thesis demonstrated that changes in religious policy resulted in activation of the movement for the legalization of the UGCC as well as its organized forms. A characteristic feature of the legalization of the UGCC was close cooperation with national political movements, opposition to the Soviet regime. The survey found an association between the output of the Greek Catholics of the underground and the rise of interfaith confrontation.
