The thesis is devoted to typological study of Ukrainian and English social- utopian novel of I half of XX century, highlighting its features and national identity, which was not the subject of a thorough clarification of Ukrainian literary criticism. The basis of chosen for comparative studies approach represents novel writen by Ukrainian and English writers of I half of XX century. "Solar Machine" by V. Vynnychenko, "Last Eidzhevud" by Y. Smolych , "Brave New World" by O. Haksley, "1984" by George Orwell . Applied historical-genetic, typological and distributional approach to the analysis of literary text, making it possible to rethink the discourse of utopian and anti-utopian, to identify patterns in the art world in modeling of both literatures and their genre and matrix types. Dystopia genre is a kind of intellectual novel of the twentieth century, the genre is characterized by syncretic matrix. Comparing "Solar Machine" by V. Vynnychenko with similar works in English literature, the rich semantics and ambiguity of genre structure of Ukrainian novel from point of view of combination of genre features of philosophical novel is highlighted. Investigated genre seamlessly continued the tradition of utopian novels in new socio-historical conditions. Inheriting the full range of political, philosophical problems from previous utopias, dystopia solves these problems from the standpoint of new realities. British dystopia of I half of XX century as an independent genre formed independently of the novel by Vynnychenko, because it was not known in the West. Utopia - a national genre of English literature that expressed the insular mentality of British people. This genre has confirmed its relevance at different stages of literary process, particularly increased its ideological and aesthetic role lately. With rich experience traditions dystopia shows active innovation, finding new varieties of genre and artistic principles.
