This thesis focuses on the investigation of structural, semantic and functional properties of proper names in different genres of modern German newspaper and publicistic discourse. A comprehensive analysis of proper names distribution in brief news items, informative articles, reports, portraits, comments, glosses, reviews and interviews is accomplished via the use of statistic methods. Based on the obtained data the extra- and intralinguistic factors of proper names usage in the genres of modern German press it has been proved that the narrative strategies of proper names introduction in the newspaper and publicistic discourse determine the correlation between the introduction of a name and the introduction of a referent. The role of onomastic metaphors in the German publicistic texts of different genres is realized in its various functions which ensure the embodiment of addresser's intention and creation of the ideological content of the text. The statistic analysis of proper names distribution and specifics of their functions in different genres of German publicistic discourse enabled to make general conclusions about proper names as statistic parameters of a certain genre.
