Essay

The world-system approach and developed by them concepts in the contemporary political science was studied in thesis. The theory and methodology of world-systems analysis were considered by a historiography of the world-system's research topics. It allows determining the main sources of world-system analysis. Among the most influent origins were determined early transition theories, dependency theory (Andre Gunder Frank's tradition) and Fernand Braudel's scientific heritage. Considering the concepts developed by Immanuel Wallerstein, Andre Gunder Frank, Giovanni Arrighi, George Derluhyan, Beverly Silver, Boris Kagarlytsky, and Terence Hopkins has been determined development stages of world-system approach and possible criteria for its typology. In particular, the criteria of disciplinary division of science and the country of origin researcher were rejected. It is concluded that the most efficient criteria for classification is a problematic criterion, which based on W. Thompson's approach. The new concept of the world-system and related concepts (mini-world system, the world system, the world-economy, world-empire) were described with particular attention to distinguish major geographic regions (or global) based on the operation of unequal exchange that share of the common space in the core and the periphery. In addition, the concept of world-system was compared with civilization and socio-economic system. Comparing notion "world-systems" with conventional notion for political science "the state" allowed determining the advantages and disadvantages both of them. Among advantages of the world-system nation were determined discussing character of the notion, enlarging the spatial measurement unit of analysis by the single criterion of socio-economic relations and denial of its a-historical character. In turn, among the world-system flaws we can highlight a lack of systematic data for deeply analysis of the world-system processes at the level of empirical research, lack of validity of the hypothesis of the trade as the cause of the emerge of modern world-system, likely incorrect term world-empire.
