Ternary phase diagram of Mg-{Ti,Mn}-Ni system at 500 °C have been constructed for the first time. A new Mg3MnNi2 and Mg3TiNi2 ternary intermetallic compounds with the Ti2Ni type has been identified. Hydrogenation properties of the intermetallic compounds Mg3MNi2 (M= Al, Mn, Ti) have been investigated. A novel low-temperature hydride, Mg3MnNi2D3-x with filled Ti2Ni-type structure has been synthesised and its crystal structure has been studied in detail by powder neutron diffraction. The mechanochemical hydrogenation of the selected mixtures demonstrated the highest dynamics for the composites Mg-IMC and Mg-IMC-C, which are characterized by a high reversible capacity of ~6 wt.%. The Mg-IMC and Mg-IMC-C composites demonstrated substantial defference during rehydrogenation.
