Current trends of the components potential development of the engineering complex are researched. It is revealed that the key condition for the successful strategy development implementation of the mechanical engineering sector is the realization of the well-timed and efficient assessment of the dynamics trends of specific and integral indicators which characterize the state and efficiency of potential usage, its competitive advantages and competitiveness. The usage of this assessment during the formation of the mechanical engineering sector strategy development makes it possible to define present trends of these indicators as well as the main priorities of the strategy development changes.
