Senyk G. Ukrainian-German Language Contacts in Bukovina

The given thesis offers a new areal and typological approach to the study of the contacts between Ukrainian and German languages in Bukovina. The complex methodology has been devised to analyze the loans with the German etymon in different Bukovinian regions as well as Bukowiner Deutsch relicts. The analysis has been carried out in temporal and age dimensions on the basis of free associative experiment, conducted among the native speakers of Ukrainian and German languages of differrent age groups. The methodology proved to be effective and made it possible to determine the regularities and distinctions concerning the adaptation of the loans, as well as their areal spread and interference phenomena in Bukovina, Germany and Austria. The mechanisms of formation and stabilization of interference phenomena typical of the German language in Bukovina have been revealed and clarified.
