The thesis is a comprehensive study of the problem of the Ukrainian Orthodoxy autocephaly. Key provisions of canon law and church-historical tradition concerning ecclesiastical independence are analyzed. The conditions and factors legitimizing autocephaly by the Ecumenical Orthodoxy are elucidated. The legitimacy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church claim for autocephaly is proved. The arguments for the Autocephalous Orthodox Church formation in Ukraine are suggested, and the solutions to this problem are modeled.
