Essay

Thesis is devoted to questions improving passive safety for a new generation locomotive in accidental collisions by developing driver's cab with a sacrificial zone and energy absorption devices. The main passive protection requirements for new generation passenger locomotive, a design-layout scheme of driver's cab for locomotive with passive safety system (PSS) were developed. PSS consists of two energy absorption devices (EAD) in the locomotive frame body end, rigid not-penetration frontal wall, sacrificial and security zones. EAD design was developed and patented. Its experimental sample crash test was successful. The technique and finite-element models to simulate stress-strain state of the cab frame design elements were developed at static longitudinal load on frontal wall elements and at super standard impact taking into account geometric and physical nonlinearities, nonlinear dynamic contact interaction of the locomotive front elements with the impactor, dynamic hardening of the steel depending on the impact speed. As a result of the research modular driver's cab for electric locomotive EP20 with PSS is designed, manufactured and put into production at "Production Association Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant". The theoretical and practical results can be used by Ukrzaliznytsia, the railway administration of Ukraine, enterprises in the development of engineering designs of new-generation locomotives with SPB.
