The thesis deals with a new contrastive approach to the study of genetic and functional connective potential of pronouns in the English and Ukrainian languages; the mechanisms of pronouns connective properties were determined due to their origin in the English and Ukrainian languages; the pronominal constructions of both languages were classified according to the type of pronoun connection; the referential, emphatic and stylistic functional yields were characterized on the basis of their connective potential; regularities and distinctions in genetic nature and functional load of pronouns in the contrasted languages were found out.
