This dissertation is devoted to the language of private German SMS correspondence. The author discusses historical conditions of SMS communication development and reveals textual categories and parameters, verbal and non-verbal features, functional purposes of private German SMS messages.The principal stylistic means encountered at phonetic, syntactic and lexical-phraseological levels indicate typical language of SMS communicants, which can be described as spoken language applied in SMS communication in a technology-mediated environment.
