The dissertation is dedicated to the system analysis of the political myth phenomenon as an instrument of construction and legitimization of the contemporary social and political reality, cognition of people consciousness, and political behavior of elites. Examination of specific characteristics and functions of the political myth was subsequently developed in the research. The author researches new aspects of myth functioning in the political life of the contemporary society of Ukraine and determines the main features of the Ukrainian mentality that considerably influence the character and the extent of distribution of myths within the Ukrainian policy.
